La Forêt de la Double
FOREST – ± 10–15 min drive
One of the major attractions of the region is the Forêt de la Double. Covering more than 50,000 hectares, it is now a harmonious forest with many small lakes, a varied landscape with more than just oak and conifer trees. At the end of the 19th century, the forest was made accessible with the construction of roads. Today it is a beautiful and tranquil area with a wide variety of tree species, countless walking trails, and lakes (the largest being the Étang de la Jemaye, located in the heart of the forest), making it a wonderful place to relax.


La Roque
VILLAGE – ± 1h45–2h drive
La Roque Saint-Christophe is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is a vast rock formation with cave dwellings along the Vézère River. It offers beautiful views over the river valley. The cliff is about one kilometre long and rises to a height of approximately one hundred metres above the road and the Vézère River.
The rock has five terraces, which were formed partly by erosion from the river water some 60 million years ago and partly—above all—by the action of frost on the limestone during the ice ages of the Quaternary period.
Gouffre de Proumeyssac
CAVE – ± 1h15–1h30 drive (Vézère valley)
The stalactite cave has several chambers and is also known as the “Crystal Cathedral.” There are stalactites, monoliths, and stalagmites. Due to the inflow of water, numerous calcite deposits have formed inside the cave. This drainage water is nowadays used to coat pottery with a layer of calcite, giving the ceramics a beautiful sparkling effect.
Guided tours of approximately 45 minutes are offered in the cave.


Chateau Franc Mayne
WINERY – ± 45–55 min drive (Bordeaux/Saint‑Émilion region)
Château Franc Mayne is a Grand Cru Classé wine estate located just outside the medieval town of Saint-Émilion. The château is set among rolling vineyards and offers fine views over the surrounding countryside. The estate is known for its limestone cellars, which are partly carved into the rock beneath the vineyards.
Visitors can learn about the history of the château, the winemaking process, and the unique underground cellars. Wine tastings are available, providing an opportunity to sample the estate’s wines and experience the character of Saint-Émilion. A visit to Château Franc Mayne can easily be combined with a walk through the historic centre of Saint-Émilion.
